"An elegant weapon, for a more civilised age."
People have learned to emulate great writing, while unfortunately, not saying anything at all.
I think it used to be that people wrote to say something. But, in the world of business, people write to fill space, and to give appearance of something that isn't really there. I know this is an old complaint, but words like "data-centric", I mean, what in the fuck does that really mean? "Situated near data" ? Seriously? Is that really something worth noting? It really irritates me, because I've always loved writing. I've loved flaring out my words, trying to think of the most articulate way to put something, to get not only my point across, but to be artful, and sexy. But these days, it seems like the sexiest, artful-est way to get ideas from your head to your readers head, is to be blunt. I think of Ryan Adams and his song "Come Pick Me Up". "I wish you would come pick me up, take me out, fuck me up, screw all my friends, their all full of shit." Now theres putting it to you in no uncertain terms, and I dig it. Its like these days, people have found the formula of Shakespeare and punched in their thoughts. And its cheating. Its bullshit. I can do that too, and I like to think when I do, it makes sense. But the more and more sweet alliteration and fluttery I read, the more and more I'm repulsed by finesse. Its a damned shame. But alas, now I shall endeavor, whole heartedly, in solomn posture, to write some good shit, that dont necessarily sound good, but makes a whole handfula' sense.
